In 2014 you cannot drive strategy from the top down without enagagement

Recently I heard a CEO say at a meeting that a strategic plan should come from the top and driven down through the organisation and that he does not see any point in engaging the staff in the strategic goal setting.  Sorry, that is yesterday's thinking and no way to get a common pervasive culture within that drives success.

We can take a lesson form any successful sporting team. Agreement on a common goal, committed to reaching that goal and everyone being involved on how you are going to achieve the desired result.

I am still trying to digest why a CEO would believe that the leaders should take this position. Maybe that is what he believes and is having trouble in letting go of control  and frightened to embrace an inclusive culture.
